Hillel Latin America: Regional Tzedek Trip, San Pedro Norte, Cordoba Argentina
From April 30 to May 3, 30 students and young professionals from Buenos Aires, Cordoba City, Montevideo, Asunción and Rio de Janeiro participated in Hillel Latin America’s first regional Tzedek trip. The participants gathered in the small village of San Pedro Norte, Argentina (population 360), located three hours north of Cordoba City.
The participants engaged in different activities to improve the quality of life of the small village, with a focus on improvements for the village’s children. Participants painted the walls of the village school, refurbished the school’s furniture and installed a new oven in the school kitchen. The participants also spent time visiting with the local children, setting up game stations in the village square and teaching the children about oral health.
During the evenings, the Hillel group held Jewish learning sessions about the meaning of tzedek, guemilut chasadim, and tikun olam. The trip also included an incredible Shabbat experience, and after tefilot the group organized games and shows for the local children.
This trip marked the launch of Hillel Latin America’s initiative to build a regional Hillel tzedek corps that weaves together the experience of social action with the background of our Jewish values.
